The sky! She's a makin' the snow!
This entry is now hopelessly outdated... having said that...
They call it the blizzard of '06! I call it the... well... what they said I guess. I know they say we broke all kinds of records with like 26" of snow but it didn't seem like more that '96. I will agree that it was an ass-load of snow. Last night Jodi and I went out for a little night of enjoyment. My mom was in town and offered to watch Ace so we went to see Tristam Shandy which was a weird movie. It was really interesting at first but then kind of turned into a random movie about making a movie and then back to an interesting movie that ended abruptly. It starred Steve Coogan, who is pretty funny and the lady who plays Moaning Myrtle from the Harry Potter movies. There were others in there but I don't want to mention them at the moment. After the movie we went to the Zombie Hut on Smith Street. they moved to some new swanky digs a block away from their old place. Now they have like a little ski chalet type back room with gas fireplace and a backyard for summer drinking times. I look forward to sipping frozen booze concoctions there. By this point it was snowing but not sticking. I scoffed at the snow warnings. "B'ah! They always say that snow blizzard shit. I don't buy it." We made our way to Tuk Tuk which is our favorite Thai place. The food there is delicious. I had this Chicken Pan Himmapan. It was fantastic! Lady on to our left told a story about a friend of theirs being bitten in the dick by a parrot. The guys to the right of us spilled all their glasses of water as they were leaving without telling anyone so the waitress discovered their accident at the last possible moment before seating someone else there. The guys thought it was hilarious as they scurried out. Scumbags.
After finishing up at Tuk Tuk we stumbled to The Brazen Head. I was really hoping to have a 6 Points of some variety. They didn't have any so I ordered a Victory Hop Devil. Normally I love the VHD but this was as flat as can be. I choked it down and told the bartender it sucked. He offered me another tap but I declined.
Then we started home but Jodi suggested going to the Dragon Lounge. The Dragon Lounge is a small space that was briefly a restaurant and is now a club. For a long time it was a restaurant that was going to open called SoJu. It was close to opening for what seemed like a year without opening. Then one day it opened. I'd say about 4 month later I got an email to my evite thing saying that SoJu was now the Dragon Lounge and that it was a hot new club with DJ's instead of food. We decided to stop in and see what was up. We were the only patrons of the DL on Saturday night at 10pm. The space was really nice and big. They also have the outdoor action in back for some summer imbibing. However I don't think I will be going there again because 1) The Vodka Gimlet I ordered was terrible. It was made with what I think was Real Lime and Stoli so it was murky and bitter. 2) It cost $10. Thats just a little out of the reasonable amount for a cocktail. I will take a rail booze vodka & roses made right over that nonsense any-day. Even the Vodka gimlet at Montero, which is a total dive, was better. So, sorry Dragon Lounge. I think that your $10 drinks and weirdo space probably aren't going to catch on. Especially when people have Last Exit or Floyd to chose from.
This morning I woke up with Ace and we stared in amazement at the winter wonderland in our backyard. After helping the super a little I grabbed a shovel and started making a little snow ramp for ace off the top of the picnic table.
After playing in the backyard for a while we plopped Ace in the sled and we dragged him through the streets on it. We was in Ace-y heaven as we pulled him down to the Promenade. It was totally crazy down there. It was still early and not a lot of people had been out so everything was still not packed down. After a little plodding around the promenade we headed to the dog run for some sledding.
Snow Fun pictures
One unexpected result of having Ace baby-sat on Saturday was that my mom's eternal friend, Joan, came over and fixed our sink. Of course not being handy at all I decided the sink was un-repairable. I had already bought a new sink and it arrived the next day. I am going to hold onto it because I know I probably won't be able to fix that one when it breaks again. What? I said I'm not handy.
