A Weird Week of Weirdness

So this week has been super weird. Probably the weirdest in a while.

Monday, I sat in as a guest on the "_blank">F-Plus Podcast. Its similar to my own and actually started around the same time as mine. The difference is that they have a bunch of people reading from a site or sites instead of just me suffering alone. It was fun but man, after reading super weird Ok Cupid profiles for a while you just get depressed! I also recorded my own podcast about gangbangers this week and posted it. Monday was also a nightmare commute home. So many people going crazy for the good weather. The Brooklyn Bridge was packed. Like pedestrians 5-6 people across and over flowing onto the bike path. Super sucked.

Tuesday was sucky. I'm on the board of my co-op. Have been for two years now. I joined because I felt like it was something I should do. I've lived in this building now for 10 years and I wanted to see how the board made decisions since I've often been baffled by the things they choose to spend money on. Last year we set out to refinance the buildings existing mortgage to one that had more favorable terms. We did what we considered to be our due diligence in researching it, getting bids and making sure we had the power to do so. Long story short the sponsor of the building holds the paperwork for the existing loan and refused to help us out and killed the whole process. Also some of the shareholders took issue with us making such a big decision without asking them about it. According to the rules of the board we did but it was in poor judgement to so. I digress. So one consequence of our failed refinance was that we are now under the scrutiny of the sponsor. He holds 2 chairs on the board that he has rarely sent a representative to. Suddenly there is someone there from his office at every meeting. This week the Sponsor actually showed up with his partner/assistant/whatever to both sit in. Its their right to do so. The president of the board has a HUGE chip on his shoulder about the sponsor. He is holding a grudge from when he was a renter in the building and the sponsor was just the landlord, apparently. So whenever these two guys would ask a question the president would give a terse answer or go on about "people who actually LIVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD CARE!" and so on. After a while the sponsor took issue with the tone the president of board was taking with him and it escalated into a shouting match. The president was suggesting that the sponsor should have sold out of the building in the spirit of converting a building into a co-op. The sponsor was like "You want me out? Put your money on the table. Put your money where your mouth is. You're nobody! I could buy and sell you! You're nothing to me!" and so on. Then the other guy laid into him, too. The president got totally dressed down. Somehow order was restored and the meeting went along quickly after that. However, now as a consequence of that whole exchange everyone on the board has been getting bombarded with nit-picky emails from the sponsors representative. Every email response is met with a quick and confrontational email about some small detail they feel is being omitted. So basically they are killing us with the details. Of course thats their right. In my mind its being done as a petty revenge against the building for the refinance and now doubled down for the presidents issue with the sponsor. The flurry of emails I got yesterday was probably around 25-30? All kinds of accusations of impropriety in the way people carry about their business and so on. It's really quite tedious.

I have forgotten why Weds was weird.

Thursday I found out that one of my cousins, on my mothers side, who live in Alabama had his house destroyed by a tornado. Apparently his wife and kids were home hiding in a closet and when they opened the door the house was just totally destroyed. As in gone. Not a trailer or anything. An actual free standing house. Earlier in the day, and totally unrelated to the tornado, I was watching Wall-E with Ace & Asher. I was thinking about how Wall-E changes the lives of everyone he comes in contact with. Whether its just teaching a button pressing robot to wave "hi", setting other robots free or forcing humans to see the world around them. Wall-E touches people and its weird. Good but weird. Now, my only real issue with the whole end of that movie is that the people who are sent back to earth are basically going to die, right? They have no skills of any sort. There are massive dust storms. No water. I mean, one plant in a boot isn't changing that! What about all the other ships that must have been sent into space 700 years ago? What about them? Are they still out there? Are they dead? Too many loose ends I say. Anyway, Ace likes that movie now. He refused to watch it for a while. Perhaps he was too young to appreciate the portrayal of our planet as a used up, polluted husk. Asher had to take a bath during the climax of the movie so I won't take his review at face value. I ended Thursday with my 4th improv performance of 2011. Another 5 minutes at New Team Lunacy at the PIT. Its fun but hard to justify being out at 11pm for 5 minutes of stage time. To be fair, its just to sort of warm up the performance engine and thats what its been doing. We had fun. I hung out with Rob Blatt for a little while since he was nice enough to come see the 5 min show.

Friday is here and I'm catching up on mad work, son. I have to go pay for my VO Demo that I recorded last month and pick up the files and what not. What do I do with it after I get it? I guess... try to get work!!! Come on Friday.. show me what you got!

I've been having issues with dreamhost barfing on the downloads of my podcast and then trying to upsell me private server for a couple of months so I switched media hosts. One of the upsides is that now I can embed the audio! Sadly it doesn't have the nifty "total downloads" that the previous wordpress plugin had but its still cool. Plus no one is reporting bad media anymore.

Last night President Obama gave the State of the Union address. It was okay. Afterwards the GOP gave its response which was more of the BE VERY AFRAID message that they have been jamming down our throats for the last 12 years. Then the Tea Party had its unofficial sanctioned by no one response. I... I can barely deal with what is happening here in the USA as we come closer to these midterm elections. Shit is getting crazy. All this Tea Party shit is for the birds! It's scary, hyper-conservative nonsense and the scariest part is the GOP is getting on board all over the place. I mean can you believe that people are still saying Obama is a Kenyan, Marxist, Socialist freak with no birth certificate? The right wing has lost its collective mind and just seems content to go apeshit and scream about the decaying of society and so on.

I mean who the fuck is talking about making politicians swear BLOOD OATHS or whatever. Whats next? Pinky Swearing?

Not only is "The Contract with America" being renewed but its old author Newt Gingrich is back saying some of the dumbest shit possible. I mean I think it's great that Bill Clinton is out there scolding him for saying shit like "Obama is channeling Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior" but that stuff is actually hitting the brains of some people and sinking in. How stupid do you have to be to hear that and say "Oh yeah... he does have an anti-colonial streak in him... That Obama is ruining the country!"

OHIO Is FUBAR. Serious stupidity is happening again as we ramp up to the November elections. I am really confounded at what the hell is happening here in the US. You'd think Obama actually did live up to the dreams of the young people who elected him into office instead of towing the old lines and keeping things even steven. I have no idea what the fuck is wrong with these people. They are whipped into an insane frenzy and is scary as hell. Here's the survey that one group is sending to OHIO Conservatives who are running for office. Some of these questions are just dumb and so childishly ignorant it makes me want to slap whoever wrote them.

Now let’s hear those 15 questions. (The document states that the respondents should give one of the following answers: A = Agree; D = Disagree; U = Undecided; A* = Pro-life with exceptions of Rape or Incest, * = Added comments; NR = No Response; CR = Incumbents Conservative Rating.)

1. The Right to Life is a Constitutional right, therefore innocent human beings should have legal protection from conception until natural death. If you hold any exceptions please state them.
2. The regulation of Carbon Dioxide in our atmosphere should be left to God and not government and I oppose all measures of Cap and Trade as well as the teaching of global warming theory in our schools.
3. Marriage is defined as being between a man and a woman, any other type of Union is not marriage.
4. Children should not be placed into foster homes where the parents are homosexual, bisexual, or transgender.
5. Parental consent should be required for sex education that teaches more than direct abstinence.
6. The second Amendment to the Constitution [the right to keep and bear arms] should not be weakened in any way.
7. Only US citizens should be allowed to vote and a photo ID should always be required to vote. (The Mexican government requires a photo ID and fingerprint).
8. I oppose Ohio’s State Income Tax.
9. I oppose the Obama Health Care Reform and would like to see more affordable healthcare through a competitive, open, and transparent system.
10. I oppose the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy of the military and believe that all same sex partners should be banned from combat duty in the military because of the propensity to transmit blood-borne diseases in the theatre of battle.
11. I support a law that will allow the people to place on a ballot all collective bargaining agreements of all government associations, unions, and guilds, for their expressed approval. Defeat of such an agreement would mean government workers would not be immune from the free market system.
12. I oppose card check for voting to implement a Union as this could give unions an unfair intimidation tactic to implement unionisation.
13. I am not an economic pacifist. I believe that we need to protect our economic borders in order to ensure free and fair trade. Tariffs should be used to stop the wealth and jobs of Americans from leaving her borders.
14. The Federal Reserve as it is currently conceived needs to be abolished or at the very least audited.
15. I advocated moving our currency to a debt-free supply-side labour-based currency.

The email’s author, the Freedom Institute Steering Committee member Jon P. Morrow, tells candidates to “please keep it short sweet and simple” as their answers will “reach 1,000+ Republicans and at least 4.000+ Independents that have a history of voting conservatively.”
